How do I become a member of the KFPS?
You can apply in two different ways.

How can I register a horse in my name?
You have to be a member to register a Friesian horse in your name. You can do so, by sending us the registrationcertificat of your Friesian horse, completely filled out with your name and address on the back. Where can I buy a Friesian horse?
As Friesian Horse Studbook we don't concern ourselves with trading Friesian horses. You can contact your local breeding association for addresses of breeders. If you want we can send you a list of mainly Dutch stallion-stations. These station-owners trade themselves or know which breeders have Friesian horses for sale.

How can I request an inbreeding coefficient list?

When breeding foals, keeping an inbreeding percentage below 5% is recommended. To help you achieve this, you can login at 'My horse' at get all the breeding information.

Which letters have to be used for the names of foals born in 2012?
The names of foals born in 2012 will begin with the letter M, N or O.

Is my passport valid according to the new EU legislations?
Every passport must contain a "medical treatment" section. Passports issued before 2004 (the ones with the yellow cover) do not contain a "medical treatment" section. As communicated on several occasions, these passports could be supplemented with a "medical treatment" insert until June 30, 2009. If, for whatever reason, a passport has not been supplemented with the insert, it is no longer valid. In such a case, you will have to exchange the original yellow passport for a new original passport. Please note that costs are involved with this. You can exchange the passport by sending it tot the KFPS accompanied by a completed application form for "original horse passport". When you exchange the passport after January 1, 2010, the KFPS is required to enter a "limitation" in the passport. As a result of this limitation, it is no longer possible to make the horst available for slaughter for human consumption. This limitation is entered on page 26 of the passport. The red passports issued after 2004 already satisfy the new EU legislation.

There is no space left on the inoculation pages in the passport. Do I have to apply for a new passport?

If the inoculation pages are full, you can apply for a follow-up passport from the agency that issued the original passport. For this, you will need to submit an “application form for a follow-up horse passport” accompanied by your current passport.
The red passports will then be supplemented by extra inoculation pages and bound in a cover.
A yellow passport, however, will be supplemented with an “extra” passport. The owner should then keep the original yellow passport and this “extra” passport together. Both of these passports should also accompany you when taking the horse away from its stables. The extra passport is easy to recognize: the word “vervolgpaspoort” (follow-up passport) appears in the window.

I no longer have my passport. How can I apply for a new passport?

If the owner no longer has the original passport, he/she can apply to the passport-issuing agency for a duplicate or replacement passport. Applying for this involves submitting a completed “Application form for the issuing of a duplicate or replacement horse passport”. If possible, this should be accompanied by documentary evidence. The application form also asks the owner to indicate how the passport went missing. The KFPS will process only fully completed applications that have been declared to be truthfully filled in.
A decision will then have to be made as to whether the horse will be eligible for a duplicate passport or for a replacement passport.
A duplicate passport can be issued only if the identity of the horse can still be established.
A replacement passport is issued if the identity of the horse can no longer be established (e.g. due to the lack of a microchip or when a DNA verification of the horse’s line of descent can no longer be established either).
You can see at a glance which of these passports you are dealing with: printed in the window is the word “duplicaatpaspoort” (duplicate passport) or “vervangend paspoort” (replacement passport).

Please note: Do not forget to send in the requested documentary evidence along with the application for a duplicate or replacement passport.

Can I subscribe to Phryso?

Members of the KFPS who live in the Netherlands are automatically placed on the Phryso subscription list. If you do not wish to register any horses in your name but you still want to receive the monthly issues of Phryso, you can sign up as a contributor of the FPS. Each donor receives the monthly issues of Phryso. The costs for this are given in the list of fees.

Where can I have my Friesian horse microchipped?
If you have a registered Friesian horse, you can have your horse microchipped at any regional judging event or FPS studbook judging. The costs for this are given on our price list of fees.
You can also have your veterinarian implant a microchip in your registered Friesian horse. Your veterinarian can then write to us and give us the implanted chip number. We will then record this microchip number for your horse.

Where can I have my Friesian horse inspected?
The inspections of foals, mares and geldings take place on inspection days.
