WUR
In general, the aim is to obtain more insight into the longevity of Friesian horses and to investigate genetic parameters for selection.
Research is being conducted, as based on data related to the disposal of the horse, into the degree to which genetics affects longevity.
Studies will be conducted into the relationship between exterior and longevity. These studies will include how horses develop during their older years as based on the linear scores given for their exterior characteristics.
A better method of registering causes of death will have to be found for the purpose of developing parameters for selection.
Fertility
- Cryptorchidism
Research will be conducted into the prevalence of cryptorchidism among colts.
This inventory can also be used to determine the degree to which this defect is inherited.
Stamina
FR/Van Beckhaven
Heart rate and lactate levels are being measured during ABFP tests to gain insight into the phenotypic and genetic aspects of stamina in the Friesian horse.
